3 Tips For An Effective Wedding Invitation

Blog

If you are planning on getting married soon, one of the most important things that you can do is make sure that you create and send out effective wedding invitations. Here are three ways that you can do so.

#1 Give Lots Of Warning With The Save The Date

With the save the date announcement, you are going to want to give as much warning as possible. For example, if you are planning a wedding that is about a year away, send out the save the date between six to nine months in advance. The more advance warning you give, the easier it will be for people to clear their schedules. This is especially true if you know that certain relatives will be traveling far away or if you are holding a destination wedding. This will allow them your guests to not just save the date, but save up for your special day.

#2 Keep The RSVP Date Separate

It may be tempting to put the RSVP date on the same part of the invitation as the main wedding date. However, you can cut down on confusion by keeping the RSVP date on separate invitations. Include a little notecard with the invitation that has the RSVP date on it; this will help it stand out as a separate date.

When you choose the RSVP date, don't set it too far out in the future. Try to keep the date within a month or so after sending out the formal invitations. When you make the date too far out into the future, it is more likely people will forget about it.

Also, make sure the date is at least a few weeks before the catering company needs a final head count. That way, if you need to call and chase down RSVP's, you'll be able to.

#3 Budget Time To Handwrite The Invitations

Finally, make sure that you budget time to handwrite the addresses on the invitations. Although you could easily make address labels, handwritten addresses just have more of a personal touch to them. Round up some of your friends with the best handwriting, and enlist them to help you write out all the addresses. Save the invitations of friends and family who can identify your handwriting for yourself; those individuals will appreciate it when they see that the invitation was written by you. Although you can hire a calligrapher to do this for you, this is one easy way to reduce the overall costs of your wedding invitations while not compromising on quality at all.
